Official Hampshire County records must come from the office that created or maintains them. The contacts below route a court file, police report, regional-jail question, or fingerprint record to the proper government custodian in Romney, Augusta, or the statewide system.

This Is Not a Government Office. Hampshire County Criminal History is a private reference resource. It cannot retrieve, certify, correct, seal, or expunge an official record, and it cannot accept a filing or records request.

Need an Official Record?

Start with the custodian that holds the exact record. Court clerks do not keep an agency’s incident narrative, and the Sheriff does not issue a Circuit Court judgment or a WVSP fingerprint history.

  • Felony files and older Circuit records: Hampshire County Circuit Clerk, P.O. Box 343, Suite 157, Hampshire County Judicial Center, 50 South High Street, Romney, WV 26757; 304-822-5022. Judiciary sources do not publish office hours, so call before visiting.
  • Misdemeanors, initial felony events, bail, and Magistrate warrants: Hampshire County Magistrate Clerk, P.O. Box 881, Suite 3, 50 South High Street, Romney, WV 26757; 304-822-4311. Call to confirm access and hours.
  • Sheriff incident and arrest reports: Hampshire County Sheriff, 66 North High Street, Room 2, Romney, WV 26757; 304-822-3894; information@hampshirecountysheriffwv.com. No dedicated records-counter hours or current fee schedule are published.
  • Romney police and Municipal Court records: 340 East Main Street, Romney, WV 26757; 304-822-4060. Town business hours do not establish police records-counter hours.
  • Capon Bridge police reports: Capon Bridge Police Department, 259 Whitacre Lane, Capon Bridge, WV 26711; 304-856-2179; cbpd@townofcaponbridgewv.gov. Call before travel because police records hours are not stated.
  • Regional-jail custody: Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, 355 Dolan Drive, Augusta, WV 26704; 304-496-1275. WVDCR operates the facility.
  • Official state fingerprint history: West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau through IdentoGO scheduling at 855-766-7746.

A specific request is easier to route. Give the record type, approximate date, location, agency, case or incident number when known, and the preferred copy format. Current prices, identification requirements, delivery choices, and counter availability should be confirmed directly with the office.
