Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A query entered in a sponsored search box is sent to the third-party company that supplies the tool. That provider processes the input under its own policy. Hampshire County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own system.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If a visitor sends an email, the message may be retained long enough to review and answer it. It is not shared outside the operating team unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Normal web operations can collect technical details when a page loads:
- Internet Protocol address
- Browser type and version
- Device and operating-system type
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- Referring website, when available
- Date and time of each request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies and analytics services help measure aggregate traffic, page performance, and navigation. A browser can block or remove cookies, although some website functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
Collected technical data supports routine operation and improvement.
- Maintain site availability and performance
- Route a sponsored query to the selected partner
- Understand which pages visitors use
- Diagnose errors and security problems
- Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Hampshire County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its editorial material explains where official records are held by the Hampshire County Sheriff, county court clerks, municipal agencies, West Virginia State Police, WVDCR, and the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report, and this resource is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power sponsored search tools. Information submitted through one of those tools is governed by the partner’s privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices. Review that policy before providing a query because those practices are not controlled here.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Hampshire County offices, West Virginia courts and agencies, statutes, or outside services. Once a visitor leaves this domain, the destination’s policy applies. Advertising providers may also use their own technology to measure activity across websites.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Search providers that process a query submitted to their tool
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Advertising networks that place or measure ads
- Government or law-enforcement authorities responding to valid legal process
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information under the operator’s control. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so protection from every breach, loss, or unauthorized act cannot be promised.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Data identified as belonging to a minor will be deleted when the operator becomes aware of it.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide rights to request access, correction, deletion, or limits on certain processing. The West Virginia Freedom of Information Act, §29B-1-3, governs requests for nonexempt records held by public bodies, not private-site visitor data. Likewise, §15-2-24 controls dissemination of West Virginia State Police criminal-history information and does not turn this private resource into the state repository.
- Request a copy of personal data held by the operator
- Ask that inaccurate personal data be corrected
- Request deletion where applicable law permits it
- Object to or opt out of certain processing where a legal right applies
Updates to This Policy
